Review of Lost World

Lost World is Sega Pinball's second foray into Michael Crichton's dinosaur
infested world. (Jurassic Park, of course, being the first was made by Data
East Pinball which became Sega Pinball.) I've only had the chance to play
this game once so much of this article is based upon two rec.games.pinball
posts by Joshua Lehan.

CREDITS FOR THE GAME? ASK ORIN DAY!!!
Lost World was design by DESIGNER, programmed by PROGRAMMER, has art by
ARTIST, ???.
-->

The playfield for this game is rather open and has a large variety of shots.
Two interesting toys are also included:

The "Snagger" - a device which captures and locks balls

The "Egg" - a dinosaur egg which opens to hatch a baby T-Rex

The game basically consists of five modes and a wizard mode known as 'San
Diego'. Advancing to the wizard mode not only requires that you start the
five other modes, it also requires that you complete every mode! This
is not that easy of a task; especially considering at least one of them
gets harder each time it is begun - regardless of whether it has been
completed!

The five modes are started by completing targets in a certain area of
the playfield and then hitting the flashing target which signifies the
mode has been enabled.

Site B: Started by hitting all of the S-I-T-E-B standup targets. When
running one is supposed to hit the lit S-I-T-E-B standup target some number
of times. This seems simple but their is a catch. The lit target moves
with each flipper activation. So, you really have to aim at the target
which will be lit after you flip!

Mobile Lab: Started by spelling T-R-E-X via the inlanes and outlanes. A
multiball is started during which you can get additional balls by hitting
the spinner a certain number of times.

Raptor: Started by spelling R-A-P-T-O-R via the R-A-P and T-O-R banks of standup
targets, placed on the left and right sides of the playfield. A multiball
is started during which the raptor shot is lit for big points. After
completing the shot this can be relit by hitting a raptor target.

GPS: Started by hitting the left ramp three times, and the right ramp
three times. During this mode you need to hit the two ramps repeatedly
in a limited period of time.

Egg: Started by hitting the Egg scoop several times. Then, you need
to hit the scoop a certain number of times in a limited period of time.

There is also a standard multiball.

San Diego is a timed multiball mode. During this mode one may hit various
targets to boost a value that starts at 500,000. A few shots are lit to
collect the value. The points may be collected repeatedly without lowering
the award value.

Overall, this game has a rather simple ruleset with innovative ideas and
an open playfield which provides a nice variety of shots. The art package
is also very vibrant and pleasing to the eye (mine, at least).
